Sat. 24th Nov. IN SEARCH OF NYDFWCH - WALK AND TALK. Meet at 1.30 p.m. at Cadle Mill. (Follow the A483 past Tesco to the traffic lights and Frorest Mill, turn right and after about 200 yards turn left into signed Cadle Mill where there is ample parking space opposite the houses. This is a 3-4 mile (5-6.5 km) walk and talk via the old Penllergaer Estate trackways to visit the site of the historic Nydfwch Mansion, the abode of the Mathews family demolished in 1820, and look down on the lake. This walk will complement the article in the Society's journal "Gower 2000".

The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers is a well established National
Organisation. The local group arranges for volunteers to carry out a variety of
vital projects both inland and near the sea. They include work on ponds,
woods, dunes, cliffs, walkways, buildings, reclamation and safety. Indeed they
have carried out important work financed by the Gower Society itself and
tonight Rhiannon Kingsley from the Trust will give an illustrated talk about

26th Jan. "PRICKED". Ros Harris was the first woman to serve as
High Sheriff of the preserved County of West Glareorgan, although some women have served in other
counties throughout Wales and England. The oldest surviving secular office, and until modern times,
one which has mostly been held by men, Ros has often been asked about the work of High Sheriffs.
In talking about her year in office she explains some historical traditions of the role and how they

author of the local history book with the above title will describe the ships, seamen, and entrepreneurs who made Swansea
one of the world's leading sailing ship ports and home to more "Cape Homers" than any other port. They
brought copper and copper ore to this area from all over the world, but especially from Chile and Peru
"round the Horn". Joanna will talk about conditions at sea during this most challenging of all

minimum contact policy to reduce stress, their rehabilitation techniques and their post release research
