Welcome to The Geek Ring!

Presenting the Geekiest Folks of the Web

Brought to you by Cris "PC-Geek" Berneburg, the GeekMaster

In the upcoming months I will be making some changes to the Geek Ring. For a while I have been negligent in my duties as GeekMaster of ensuring that sites linked into the Geek Ring are indeed Geeky or even set up correctly. So for now I have disabled all Ring and Queue additions and will be reviewing sites to make sure they are geeky enough. Those sites not meeting my stringent subjective criteria will be moved into the queue. Also, any sites that contain material that is too objectionable, IMHO, for the Geek Ring will also be placed in the queue or removed altogether. I have spoken.

Are you a Geek? Do you enjoy the sciences or math more than playing, say, football or cheerleading? Do you want to promote Geekiness by publishing yours throughout cyberspace via your own webpage? If so, please read on...

So here are some tedious rules

  1. We must easily be able to tell that you are a Geek
  2. Your web site must promote geekiness in some way. A math, science, chess, geeky links, etc. sort of page.
  3. NO objectionable material. Very little bad language, no porn, no advertisements for alternative relationships. If you live that sort of life we don't want to know about it here.
  4. The special Geek Ring HTML code MUST be on the page to which it is linked. IOW, when someone cruising the ring hits your site, they must be able to see the Geek navigator without having to find it on another page. Webring collection pages are out.

Steps in a nutshell

Seeing how all those other folks have created web rings relating to various topics, I thought it would be geeky, I mean cool, to create a ring for those of us who, well, just don't fit into mainstream society but do fit into various intellectual fields. So here it is, the official Geek Ring! To join, there are a few steps we must endure:

  1. You add yourself to the waiting queue.
  2. You insert the magic HTML code into your homepage.
  3. You email someone who is already a member of the Geek Ring and ask them to officially add you.
  4. Someone else pops you into the ring!
  5. Later, you may change your options.

Special thanks to Mindy Chapman for providing the static beanie for our official Geek Ring Beanie!

Step #1

Add Yourself to the Waiting Queue

So you'd like to join the Geek Ring, eh? Are you a geek? Go right ahead and add yourself to the queue by filling in the following form. When you're sure you've got it right, hit the "Add to Queue" button. You should get an email message back acknowledging your entry into the queue and providing you with the necessary HTML code to add to your homepage.
Goto the next step.

Step #2

You insert the magic HTML code into your homepage

You should have received an email message providing you with the HTML code to insert into your homepage. If you wait for the email then you won't have to play substitution games that I describe next. But I've also included it here for you to cut and paste, well, just in case! Replace the --mail-- and --title-- with your email addy in the "mailto" section. Also, please be sure to replace the --id-- in the linkage section with your site id number!

*** Special note for frame users!! *** The ring doesn't work too well with frames, but there's a way around this problem! On your frame definition page, put the Geek Ring HTML code in **both** the BODY of the FRAMEDEF **and** the BODY of the target window text. That way, if a browser can't handle frames, it'll still see the links in the body and ignore the frames, and if it does support frames it'll ignore the body. Got it? If not, email me and include your email addy in the message body with your question.
Goto the next step.
