national society for epilepsy |
The National Society for Epilepsy is striving to find a cure for epilepsy.Until a cure can be found, we continually seek to improve the treatment of people with epilepsy and the understanding of this complex condition: by ourselves, by health professionals, and by the public. We are committed to the NSE leading the world in: medical and scientific research into epilepsy, improving diagnosis, treatments, and ultimately finding a cure; the delivery of the highest quality clinical care and specialist nursing training; the provision of a comprehensive information and education service. The NSE has been making a difference to the lives of people with epilepsy for over 105 years. We have built an international reputation for research. In alliance with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and The University College London Institute of Neurology, the NSE is one of only six organisations recognised by the World Health Organisation as a Centre of Excellence. Each day of the year, 82 people are diagnosed as having epilepsy. For these people and their families, it is a traumatic and uncertain time. The NSE is there to provide information, support, and practical help through the Information and Education Service, the helpline and the Network of community groups. The NSE also takes a leading role in providing education for health professionals and the public. I am determined that the NSE will help to dispel the frequent lack of understanding and prejudice experienced by people with the condition. Making a real difference to the lives of people with epilepsy, now and in the future, is the goal of the National Society for Epilepsy. Douglas Bennett NSE Chief Executive |
