Symptoms: The top
margin of your page is shifted down about 1/4 inch after the first page.
The first page prints correctly but all subsequent pages are shifted down
1/4 inch.
Cause: The top margin of your page is shifted down after the first page because the Registration Solenoid (shown below) is sticking. In new condition, the solenoid has a foam material between the solenoid and the armature (arm) to prevent it from sticking as it disengages. Overtime the foam material is degraded by toner, paper dust, and heat. The foam turns into a sticky substance preventing the solenoid arm from disengaging between printing cycles. The first page prints correctly because the printer is in the off cycle and the solenoid spring is strong enough to disengage the arm. However, if more than one page is printed, the sticky foam and the split-second cycle change prevents the arm from disengaging. |

Workaround: Factor
the margin shift into your software application.
Kit Description: This kit involves a simple adjustment to a part in your printer. It will take you about 5 minutes. The instructions are shown below. |
|
Supplies Required
*Cotton Swabs
Instructions Turn off printer. Use the cotton swab dipped in IPA Alcohol to clean out the sticky foam material. Try to get all of the gum out. Let the area dry. Then use Scotch tape or electrical tape and put it between the arm and the solenoid. The sticky side of the tape should be on the arm of the solenoid. Thats all there is to it. The sticker subsitutes as the foam material preventing the arm from sticking. You might hear a distinct clicking sound each page cycle as the solenoid engages then disengages.
