HP LaserJet IIp/IIIp Fusing Assembly Removal Instructions
Turn off printer and remove power cord. The Fusing Assembly is fastened by 5 Brass screws. Remove the 5 Brass screws shown below.
Spread the Left Side Cover with your finger to make enough clearance for the Metal Fuser Shaft. Lift the Left Side of Fusing Assembly up. Do the same the the Right Side.
To verify that the Fusing Assembly is the cause of the "Service 50" error, measure the resistance at the points shown below.
On the Left side of the fuser assembly (the side without the triangle release lever), measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 3. It should be 10 ohms or less.
On the Right side, measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 3. At room temperature, it should be between 180K and 290K ohms. (Note: If the resistance is not between 180K and 290K, your Thermistor is bad. This rarely happens so a new Thermistor is NOT included in our Fuser Kit. You must order it separately--the cost is $30.)
If either side does not meet these conditions, the fuser is causing the Service 50 error.
To install new Fusing Assembly, align the Metal Pins on the Left and Right sides of Fusing Assembly with with the connectors on the printer. Push the Fusing Assembly straight down while spreading the Left and Right sides. Install the 5 Brass screws.
