Tools Needed

 Symptoms: Your HP LaserJet 5L or 6L is jamming at the paper tray slot area. A typical early symptom is feeding more than one page at a time (Multiple Page Pickup) with out a paper jam. Later symptoms include Multiple Page Pickup with jams and just plain jams at the paper tray slot area.

Note: If the jam is located in the fuser area (near the bottom front) and it is not a Multiple Page Pickup feed, this kit will NOT solve your problem.

Cause: The Paper Pick-Up assembly, Separation Pads, and Clutch assembly are worn. The paper path design of this printer also exacerbate  the problem by putting more pressure on the above parts. The vertical position of the paper tray slot enables gravity to force more than one page into the paper path causing undue wear & tear on the above parts.

Workaround: To reduce paper feeding problems in this model, you should keep the paper slot at 2/3 full. Refill when the slot is 1/3 full. Fan the paper and make sure the corners are not krinkled before putting it in the paper slot.

Kit Description: The kit involves replacing the above parts. It should last for about 30K to 50K pages or one to two years which ever comes first.  In the interest of full disclosure, there is one minor part that is not available from our parts suppliers so an adjustment has to be made to it. The adjustment is simple and works fine. This Kit is relatively difficult so don't buy it unless you feel confident in your abilities.
