The Video Dictionary
of ASL Signs

The Video Dictionary of ASL Signs is a new concept in Sign Language dictionaries. Sign Language is a language in motion. The printed page cannot capture the powerful movement and life that belongs to the language of the deaf. What the printed page cannot do, video can do! This video dictionary makes sign language come to life. There are 2,849 words and signs in this video dictionary. These are all in alphabetical order on two-two hour VHS Videocassette tapes, four hours in all.

This is an excellent learning tool. If you need to know how to make a certain sign, you can quickly run the tape up to that place where the sign appears. You can study the sign over and over again by simply rewinding the tape to the beginning of the sign and play it back as many times as you need to master the sign. If your VCR has slow motion, you can use it to study the sign in detail.

Ray Bearden is the signer for the dictionary. He brings a rich background with years of work with the deaf as well as being the son of deaf parents. He is a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been the pastor of both deaf and hearing churches. He is the reverse interpreter for the Weekly Bible Study in ASL which is taught by Clifford Bruffey. Now you can see the signs being made. A booklet of instructions and a complete word list is included.
