Water Removal Maneuvers

Leslie Ann wanted to know about the Famed Maneuver for directing all
condensation into the third valve tuning slides.

It's really rather simple. You remove the first and second valve
tuning slides, and dump the condensation from the first valve slide into
the second valve slide. You put the first valve slide back. Then you
remove the third valve tuning slide, and dump the condensation from
the second valve tuning slide into the third valve tuning slide. Then you
put the 2nd and 3rd valve tuning slides back in the horn and use the water
key. Then you repeat the Famed maneuver for the B flat side of the
instrument. On a compensating horn, however, you dump the condensation
directly from the first valve tuning slide (F side) into the first valve
tuning slide (B flat side) and so forth.

Although this is called the "Famed" maneuver, it was actually pioneered
by the Artesian horn virtuoso, Gustavo Horse. It should therefore
be referred to as the "Horse Maneuver." If anyone on the hornlist
objects to this description, then it might be referred to as the
"Flamed Maneuver."

With utmost respect,
