Valve String

Brandon had the following question

How often should i replace my valve string? When do i know if if shows wear, or needs to be replaced? Thanks, brandon

I am a little perplexed by your question. Is it true that your horn has only one string? Do you have a one-valve horn, or do you simply rely on one valve and ignore the others? I suggest you check with your teacher, since even viola players rely on more than one string, even if they only use one at a time, or fewer.

The best time to replace that string is two weeks before it breaks. What I do is mark on my calendar the date that my string breaks; then I count ack 14 days and change the string then. The best replacement is 80-pound test, three-ply nylon fish line. It is quite easy to obtain, since nylon fish have not suffered from the same environmental difficulties that threaten the salmon and trout populations.

Your welcome, brandon.
