Tapered rotors

Ron O. wondered if anyone out there would care to comment on the use of tapered rotors.

As part of my never-ending quest to perfect my understanding of the acoustics of the horn, I removed the untapered rotors from my horn.

Then I converted them into tapered rotors. You could do this yourself. Just get some red packing tape, wrap it around the rotors, and put them back in your horn. In just a few minutes, you too can have tape-red rotors!

Unfortunately, they don't work very well, possibly because the tape blocks the air passages. Also, the rotors tend to stick, but this may be because I used the special tape with adhesive on both sides. On the other hand, several other players commented on the improvement in my tone quality.

Probably the best idea is to try this out on someone else's horn first.

Gotta go,
