I always play horn solos standing up. However, once I was first horn in a production of SIEGFRIED in which the title character performed the entire second act on a tricycle. (I think it was a Schwinn 8-D.) It was quite natural and authentic, therefore, for me to play the Long Call sitting down, though not on a tricycle, since this solo does not require the artist to produce pedal tones.
After Kavaloski heard me perform the Gliere concerto standing up, he proposed that I could achieve an even higher degree of perfection through a modification of his box method. My next performance, with a large cardboard box over my head, met with all the critical acclaim you might expect.
Gotta go,
