Forthcoming Kopprasch Edition

I look forward with anticipation (with the greatestest havings of heart beatings, as Prof. IMG would no doubt exclaim) to the new Edition of the Kopprasch Etudes. I applaud the efforts of the Kopprasch Gesmellschaffen for their diligent efforts. Not only has the second set of etudes (for high horn) been out of print for a long time, but earlier editors have inexplicably suppressed the lyrics which were included in the first edition of the familiar etudes for low horn. These lyrics, written by Kopprasch's brother Ira, have been compared to the finest poetry of Eichendorff and Goethe. (Unfavorably.)

Scholars and musicologists who have analyzed these lyrics closely have found that they reveal a wealth of detail about the personalities of Georg and Ira Kopprasch. Psychologists, however, are especially puzzled by Ira's remarkable fixation with doorknobs, which is particularly evident in Etude 47, even when you use the alternative articulations and transpositions.

Gotta go,
