When I began horn many years ago, I played my father's record of Siegfried's Rhine Journey so many times that it turned into a long plastic spiral. (Those of you who don't know what a "record" is should ask Da Bear.) Maybe Hans P gets to play the Long Call hundreds of times, but some of us have to wait decades to do the Short Call once or twice. My first chance came up this past weekend.
Afterwards, one of the violinists remarked that she enjoyed hearing me play the "off-shore horn solo." I think she meant "off-stage." On the other hand, maybe she thought I did a good job on the high seas.
Gotta go,
