Does heat hurt the horn?

John R asked

Does heat have any harmful effects on the horn? I know it will probably cause me to grease the slide more often....

To which John B added:

Since one's horn is being exposed to moist, tropical air from the inside all the time, my concern may just be a crock of beans.

Heat has little effect on the horn. However, it has a profound effect on the production of green goo inside. After a long Summer maturing inside your horn, the green goo is ready to be gathered in early to mid-October (depending on your latitude). This is the time when the green goo is most sensistive to heat. If the horn stays cool, the green goo will be high in acid, with a tart refreshing taste, and a fruity bouquet. Heat, however, results in a higher sugar content, richer on the palate, with a more delicately pungent aftertaste. When served immediately (rather than being aged in oaken casks), it is referred to as Goo Nouveau. I think you will find that it is just the thing to complement your crock of beans.

Please don't flame me if you disagree with this opinion. After all, we Cabbages are heat-sensitive too. As the Fr**ch say, "Chacun a son goo."

Il me faut partir,
