Eliminating the Embouchure

I was encouraged to read what Cindy has to say about a break in the embouchure. I know I have one. I have practiced to eliminate it....

I have an embouchure too. I have found that practicing is an ineffective way of eliminating it. Luckily, you do not need to resort to surgery. You will probably obtain quite satisfactory results by not practicing at all.

If you have a relaxing work or school schedule, it may be difficult to find time to not practice. Nevertheless, if you are dedicated to avoiding a professional career, it is important during your student years that you set aside at least 24 hours a day for not practicing. Anything less than that, and you are likely to fall short of your goal.

There are many excellent etude books for those who wish to not practice. I prefer to not practice Kopprasch's second volume. However, this is a matter of personal preference. Many of my students obtain equally excellent results by not practicing Maxime-Alphonse, volume 5 instead.

However, if you choose the Singer exercises, just remember that they should be not practiced only under the guidance of a superb teacher.

Gotta go,
