Translation Consulting Services

I am now offering one-on-one consulting services for freelance translators. These services are designed to help freelance translators develop their skills and talents, market themselves more effectively, and do more and better business with quality clients. Consultations can be done over the telephone or via e-mail. They may also be done in person if you live in or near the Atlanta metropolitan area. I can help you with all aspects of setting up and running your translation business:
  • Writing résumés/CVs, cover letters, and e-mails that attract "plum" potential clients ... not "bum" potential clients
  • Planning home office setup - selecting a site, furniture and equipment to fit your budget and goals and help you work more efficiently
  • Introducing you to a wealth of Internet resources that will help you learn more and do better business
  • Marketing yourself online - listing yourself in directories, portals, etc.
  • Sorting out educational and training opportunities and selecting the ones that are right for you
  • Establishing a website or improving an existing website
  • Budgeting and managing your time to make the most of it
  • Organizing your office space to maximize efficiency
  • Setting your rates so that you don't undersell your talents
  • Handling sticky payment issues with slow-paying or non-paying clients
  • Separating the "wheat" from the "chaff" when receiving job offers from untried potential clients
  • Doing effective research on the Internet and finding the information you want, quickly and easily
  • Presenting yourself over the telephone, in your correspondence, and in person as a professional translator who potential clients would be DELIGHTED to do business with
  • ...and more. Consultations are USD$50.00 per hour. If you're ready to invest in yourself, and start doing more and better business, please email me and let's talk!

This system has received favorable reviews from Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, CNet, and Time, and is applauded by both clients and translators all over the United States and all over the world. "We don't need to hire a professional translator to do this small, simple assignment. Why, we can just get someone to do it in-house. They can do it, they know the language!" Many a business has rued the day it made that decision. Check out the hilarious mistranslations on the Mangled Translations page.

If you need a more serious explanation of why your business needs the services of a professional translator (or if you're a translator looking for powerful ammunition to use in persuading a potential client to choose your services), take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions page. The FAQs were expanded on 1/09/01.

Please stop by the Virtual Bookstore, which is co-sponsored by Barnes & Noble. If you are a translator, work for a translating agency, are interested in translation as a profession, or are researching language issues, this is the place for you!
