Figsbury Ring, Wiltshire, UK (LANDSAT TM)

The outline of the Iron Age hillfort and its inner ditch can be discerned on a low resolution LANDSAT Thematic Mapper image.

LANDSAT TM Band 4 image

Despite its low spatial resolution of 30m, as a result of differences in vegetation cover a LANDSAT Thematic Mapper Band 4 image - covering the reflected near infra-red - shows the outline of the circular hillfort together with its inner ditch.

To the south of the hillfort, the course of the Roman road from Winchester to Old Sarum can be discerned and which has now become fossilised in the landscape in the form of modern field boundaries.

Compare this image with a high resolution KVR-1000 optical image of the hillfort.
