"Is the lump on the horse back serious and
will it need surgery?"
9th February 98. 11.33.00GMT. 51N29. 00W06.

Background
The querent was very fond of horse riding and had recently bought a young horse. After
a week or two she had noticed that a lump had suddenly appeared on its back causing it
much discomfort. She called in the vet who examined the horse and did some tests. While
awaiting the results she asked this question.
The querent is an experienced astrologer with a reasonable knowledge of horary. She
timed and located the question herself and having studied the chart asked for my opinion.
Significators
The tradition says that large animals such as horses are signified by the 12th house.
In this horary the 12th house is ruled by Mars since Aries is on the cusp.
The horses health is governed by the 6th from the 12th house which is ruled by
Mercury as Virgo is on the cusp.
Judgement
There are no aspects between the main significators Mercury and
Mars. Mercury and Mars are not involved in either collection or translation of
light, in fact there is nothing by way of horary rules to bring them together. Mars
applies by square to the ascendant degree, but Mercury signifying the horse's health does
not apply to the ascendant degree. The absence of aspects or rules uniting the two planets
shows that the horse will overcome this problem. This is the first step in this
judgement.
The Moon does not apply to either Mercury or Mars and cannot
therefore collect or translate their light. Once again this shows that the illness
will not last and surgery will not be necessary.
Prediction
We both talked the judgement over and decided that the horse would recover and that an
operation would prove unnecessary.
Result
The horse did indeed recover and within a few weeks the querent was riding him once
again.
