Refranation
DEFINITION
Perfection is denied when one significator applying by major aspect to the other
significator turns either stationary retrograde or direct before completing the aspect.
Although the three outer planets are never used as main significators, they can be
involved in Refranation. This does not necessarily mean a "no" or negative
answer.
Examples
1: Mercury the ascendant ruler at 29 Aries is applying by conjunction with Venus ruling
the 2nd house of the quesited at 3 Taurus, but Mercury turns stationary retrograde at 1
Taurus therefore the aspect is never completed.
2: Retrograde Mercury the ascendant ruler at 10 Leo is applying by trine to Mars ruler of
the 11th house of the quesited at 7 Aries, but Mercury turns stationary direct at 9 Aries
therefore the aspect is never completed.
3: Venus the ascendant ruler at 7 Virgo turns stationary retrograde and fails to complete
its conjunction with Mars ruling the 7th house of the quesited at 11 Virgo.
Refranation by parallel of declination
1: Mars at 07N04 is applying by contraparallel to
Jupiter at 16S24 but Mars will turn stationary retrograde when it reaches 07N22 therefore
failing to perfect the contraparallel with Jupiter.
2. Venus at 18N59 is applying by parallel to Mars at 23N51 but Venus will turn stationary
retrograde when it reaches 19N47 therefore failing to perfect the parallel with Mars.
Refranation by antiscia
1. Mercury at 16.08 Virgo applies by opposition
to the ascendant's antiscion degree at 18.55 Pisces. Mercury will turn stationary
retrograde at 16.13 Virgo and fail to complete the perfection.
2. Mars retrograde at 19.57 Virgo applies by sextile to Jupiter's antiscion degree at
14.13 Scorpio. Mars will turn stationary direct at 16.44 Virgo and fail to complete the
perfection.
