Flat-Coated Retrievers

Mason, Joan: Flat-Coated Retrievers Today, Howell Book House 1996. This book discusses the history of flatcoats, grooming techniques, health concerns, showing, breeding and mating, and more. The book has an extensive discussion about the various kennels, which will make good reading only for those who are familiar with the personalities. Despite its recent re-publication, this book is a bit dated though still relevant. Black & white photographs.

Phillips, Brenda: Flatcoated Retrievers, Kingdom Books 1996. A large, glossy, book with lots of color photos. This book discusses the history of the flat-coated retriever, care and training, feeding, activities, health care and old age, natural remedies, and more. It has interesting appendices with statistics of show winners, a discusison of "type", and training a flatcoat to be a gun dog. The breed standard section has good diagrams of the skeletal and muscle systems.
