Each month there will be a new problem to solve. All the problems and solutions will be kept permanently, so if you're interested in the current month's mystery, check back in a month or so and see if anyone was able to help us. Unsolved mysteries remain fair game even after the end of the month and after the next mystery is posted, until they are solved.
If you know the answer, then please e-mail me at 72713.2325@compuserve.com. Your name and solution will be permanently posted here on the Mystery page.
Also, if you have a suggestion for a future Mystery of the Month, e-mail me and let me know.
The Dionne Quintuplets, born in 1934 in Canada, were the first quintuplets ever born to all survive. They were extremely famous, were made wards of the government, and dolls and other items were made to commemorate them.
Does anyone have a genealogy for the Dionne quintuplets? I assume they're my cousins, because there's only one Dionne line (at least going back to the 18th century), but it would be fun to know exactly how we're related.
A paternal line going back as far as Tanguay would be appreciated, but if anyone knows the names of their parents and grandparents, that at least would get us started. Here are the details of the Dionne quintuplets' ascendancy, as supplied by Beverly Lasure.
Antoine Dionne and Catherine Yvory were the parents of Jean Dionne who married M. Charlotte Mignot (Jean/Louise Cloutier), 8 Feb 1684, Chateau Richer, Cte. Montmorency. Jean & Louise were parents of Antoine Dionne who married M. Anne Lizotte (Jos./Francoise Dancosse) 21 Jun 1734, Ste Anne de la Pocatiere, Cte. Kamouraska. Antoine & M. Anne were parents of Antoine Dionne who married M. Louise Caron (Louis/M. Francoise Gagnon) who married 7 Feb 1763, St. Roch des Aulnaies, Cte. Islet. Antoine & M. Louise were parents of Antoine Dionne who married M. Marthe Morneau (Jean/M. Reine Pelletier) 15 Nov 1784 St. Roch des Aulnaies, Cte. Islet. Antoine & M. Marthe were parents of Antoine-Lucien Dionne who married Elizabeth Charpentier (Marc/Marguerite Senneville) 21 Sep 1812, St. Antoine de la Baie du Febvre, Cte Yamaska. Antoine Lucien and Elizabeth were parents of Joseph Dionne who married Marguerite Courchesne (Francois/Marguerite Senneville) 10 Feb 1834, St Antoine de la Baie du Febvre, Cte Yamaska. Joseph and Marguerite were parents of Joseph Dionne who married Henriette Boisvert (Charles/Henriette Richmon) 24 Nov 1863, L'Avenir, Cte. Drummond. Joseph and Henriette were parents of Olivier Dionne who married Rosalie Couture, 3 Apr. 1893, Biddeford, York County, Maine. Olivier and Rosalie were parents of Oliva Dionne who married Elzire Legros 15 Sep 1925, Corbeil, Ontario. Oliva and Elzire were parents of the Dionne Quints: Annette, Yvonne, Cecile, Emelie and Marie.
Based on this information, I have compiled an ahnentafel for the quints, which includes many more names of ancestors, although not all (I haven't made any attempt to trace the quints, but just include all their ancestors who are in my database.)
Ron Guidry was a pitcher for the Yankees and a Cy Young award winner. He retired about 1989. I'm pretty sure he's a Cajun, and I think his full name is Ronald Ames Guidry. I don't think you're going to find a full genealogy for him anywhere, so we may have to do this in pieces. Perhaps someone can tell us where he was born, then someone can find out his parents' names, and someone with access to the records of his hometown can go from there. I'll give credit for each new piece of information that we get.
The first information I have received is from Gale LuQuette, who tells us that Ron Guidry was born in Carencro, Lafayette parish, LA.
Please don't forget that I'm counting on you out there to suggest future mysteries (e-mail address at the top of the page).
