The GEDCOM CD-ROM Project

With much regret, I have to announce that the CD-ROM project is on indefinite hold. After several setbacks (the programmer who had volunteered to create the GEDCOM reader finally withdrew after months of procrastination, for example), I now find myself knee-deep in trying to launch a business, and it's just taking up all my time. I apologize to all of you who sent in your data. As soon as possible, I plan to convert all my data (127,000 different individuals) into a GED2HTML format and post it online so that you can all have access to all my data. At the same time, I'll be asking the submitters for permission to make their gedcoms available online.

What's a GEDCOM?

GEDCOM is simply the format we use to exchange genealogy information with each other. If you have a program to enter your family members, then chances are 99 per cent that it will create a GEDCOM file for you. Because all the different programs can read GEDCOM files, it doesn't matter if I have TMG and you have PAF--we can all use each other's information. If you have a computer and you don't have a genealogy program, then YOU NEED ONE!
