SGEMKO (Swiss Society for the European Convention on Human Rights) is a private non-profit organisation spreading information in German language about the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedom (ECHR). SGEMKO is working only in Switzerland. It h as been founded on January 20, 1978.
Every adult person may become a Patronizing member of SGEMKO. The annual contribution of at least Swiss Francs 27.50 may be payed to the postal account of SGEMKO, 80-12 881-2. Patronizing members are free to end their membership at any moment, and they may therefore never be forced to pay a contribution.
SGEMKO is publishing every year in the month of March a brochure (in German language, named "Schweizerischer Menschenrechts-Schutzbrief"), which gives actual information about the development of the European Convention on Human Rights an Fundamental Freedom (ECHR).
Since May 1981, SGEMKO is also publishing a quarterly (in German language) "Mensch + Recht", which is sent without any additional fee to all Patronizing members and carrying articles about recent developments in Human Rights, Human Rights politics and judiciary decisions on Human Rights.
SGEMKO gives also specialised information on an individual basis, when asked.
SGEMKO is publishing an overview about all decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg. It is published as a brochure as well as on a 3.5"-Diskette of 1.4 MB (Price Swiss Francs 50.--; brochure or diskette may be ordered by prepayment to the postal account of SGEMKO 80-12 881-2 at the Zurich post account office; please specify, if you do want the brochure or the diskette). The overview gives not only short abstracts of every decision but also references to specialised publications in English, French oder German magazines for Human Rights. The overview may be consulted and searched online. It also exists the possibility to download an EXCEL-File with the overview without any fee.
SGEMKO-related specialists are also ready to inform (in German language) about the ECHR at meetings of other organisations or in schools and so on.
