[Easter Aquhorthies Stone Circle {Inverurie}

[CLICK FOR MAP] Getting there - (OS Map ref NJ 732207) This site is on the Gordon District 'Stone Circle Trail' and is well sign posted from the Inverurie bypass. Once there, park in the car park and walk just over 400 feet (400m) up the path. This site is looked after by Historic Scotland. There are information boards posted which detail the history of the site and maps to other sites on the trail.

Info - This site has nine stones still standing plus the two flankers and the recumbent. In front of the recumbent are two large blocks which may suggest a previous use of the recumbent, that of a stone at the entrance to a tomb. The flankers are of grey granite and the recumbent a pinky grey granite from Bennachie. From the centre, the second stone to the left of the left flanker is of red jasper. The outside face of the recumbent has been smoothed carefully.

Lindsey's tip - This is an easy access site but is very exposed and should be perhaps left for a calm day. If you look carefully you really can see the different colours of the stones used on this site and walk around the outside to see the back of the recumbent.
