This movie really does deserve an Oscar.....maybe one day

Comatose With Grief

Reviewed by the Hogganfield Herald

Following in the footsteps of Seven, and Natural Born Killers, "Comatose With Grief" is a disturbing new thriller from the creative mind of Glasgow director and Scriptwriter, Les Johnstone.Shot in the hauntingly beautiful hills of Scotland, the location used for Braveheart and Rob Roy, "Comatose With Grief" examines the relationship between two friends forced into a claustrophobic time bomb on a camping trip. Johnstone`s production initially hints at an exploration of male bonding, but quickly progresses into a revelation of personal bitterness, betrayal, envy, and how this affects his characters inter personal relationships. The story finally orgasms in an eruption of long suppressed hatred.

Johnstone`s cinematic rendition exposes the worst capabilities of a tormented mind. It will reach out from the screen, grab you by the throat, pull you into the action and take you on an emotional roller coaster, finally spitting you back out, leaving you drained and disturbed, longing for the comfort of the womb.

David Gormal, a relatively unknown actor, plays the part of "Gof ". Bringing him to life in a natural, sharp and ultimately believable way, Gormal has all the makings of an Oscar winner. A much more subtle role is that of "Mic" played by Glasgow newcomer Martin McKelvie. Initially reluctant to go on a camping holiday, Gormal is persuaded to do so by outdoor enthusiast Mic. Gof has recently split with his girlfriend Karen, and hopes the holiday will distract him. Karen, making far too brief an appearance, is played by Scottish sex kitten Irene Mackenzie, the films token "Babe" Expect to see more of this charming young actress.

Overall, this is one of the most gripping films ever orchestrated - don`t miss it.
