A Thomas Learmonth with a birthdate given as 11th Jan 1811 was registered by the Merchant Navy with Register Ticket No. 256118 as found in BT114 / 13 in the Public Records Office in Kew. This ticket was intended to identify individuals and described the following. He was taken into service in the capacity as a fisherman, was 5' 7½" tall, had a fair complexion, no distinctive marks, brown hair, and blue eyes. He first went to sea in 1836 and was 34 when ticketed and confirmed that he could write.
This is the only Thomas close to the date of birth given to the Marchant Navy and age 34 when Register Tickets were first introduced in 1845 also matches the Date of Birth given ie, he would have been 34 in 1845.

Age at death recorded as 90, although he would have been 88. Cause of death Senile Decay, registered by George Learmonth, Son in Law.
