Pubs and Clubs
This section lists places I have heard of or visited (with last visited reports and dates where a visit with friends or notable occasions warrant a report). Please verify that places are still tranny friendly before visiting, and ensure you are appropriately dressed for the venue. This list is only a guide of places and should be treated as such. If anyone has reports on other friendly places, please email me with details. Other 'Straight' places may welcome trannys, but check first if it is ok for it to be included on these pages. Thanks..
Leeds and surrounding areas - West Yorkshire
Queens Court - Lower Briggate - Leeds (Last visited 23rd March 2000)
24th May 1998. Well I ventured into Leeds with Debbie on Sunday (the first time into Leeds for 10 years). Leeds centre has certainly been cleaned up, but, we both forgot on that night it was the Leeds final of Mr Gay UK. Needless to say that it was packed and getting somewhere to park was a major issue. After a few circuits of lower Briggate, we turned off and ended parking near to the Dragonara Hotel. Just after locking the car, we were stopped by four young men in a car, lost and looking for a pub in Headingley. (About 4 miles north of where we were!). After giving directions, we were given a big thank you, waved at but not given a second glance!! I still don't know whether to take it as a compliment or not!! Anyhow, we walked the few hundred yards up Briggate to the Queens Court. There were plenty of Rollers and Bentleys pulling up. And yes - the place was packed. We arrived just after 9:30pm and only managed to get served once in the bar. This must be the least I have ever drunk in the space of an hour in a pub - a half of lager! I don't think the management of the Queens Court had expected such a large crowd to gather, and they were certainly rushed off their feet. We did try for one further drink, standing at the bar from 10:10pm until 10:30pm waiting to be served. Just as one of the bar staff was approaching us, 'Time' was called and the pumps switched off! I hope we have better luck next time we visit. On the positive side, we did meet some nice people whilst stood outside in the courtyard, saying that we would return before too long.
23rd March 2000 was the evening I met up with Nicola and Tara. I had been corresponding with Nicola for some time, and making the arrangements was very long and drawn out with both our commitments. We eventually did get together and we all had a very pleasant evening. Later on, there was one crowd who were getting particularly noisy, so Tara suggested moving on to a quieter place to round off the evening. We walked across the road to Blaydes bar for a final drink.
I am now quite a regular in the Queens court although as I write this they are in the middle of renovating the place. It will be interesting to see how it turns out!
The New Penny - The Calls - Leeds
Not yet visited - Report Pending
The Bridge Inn - Lower Briggate - Leeds
I visited this pub back in 1986/87 and have not been since then! I have been informed it is still TV/TS friendly - watch for my new report shortly.
Blaydes Bar - Lower Briggate (Last visited 23rd March 2000)
I first visited this pub 23rd March 2000 with Nicola and Tara after a few drinks in the queens court. It is a Lesbian bar, but is very accepting of TVs. It is well hidden up a court-yard further down lower briggate from Queens court, and is relatively small. Trannys are welcome any night - except wednesday - when this night is strictly for real girls only. Please note that I usually visit on wednesdays!!!
This is another of my favorite places which I frequent quite often.
Other Locations Around the UK
Flamingos is one of the largest Gay nightclubs in Britain and one of my most frequented clubs. It is situated in Blackpool opposite Blackpool North Railway Station and very accessable to and from other pubs/clubs. This club is popular with tv's and ts's and has 4 levels with at least one bar on each. There is the main dance area on the ground floor with dry ice and laser beams being the main feature. A mezanine level between second and third floor has another dance floor playing different music at a different tempo from the main dance area. Air conditioning can be found on the top floor by the bar. This area has seating and is ideal for those girls who need five minutes to cool off and freshen up. Hold your skirt if ascending the spiral staircase behind the DJ Box as you will find it a bit drafty!
Lucys bar is my second favorite place to go to in Blackpool. It is a basement bar (predominantly a lesbian bar) with small dance floor but very nice clientel. It gets very crowded in the summer months, but the air conditioning makes dancing more bearable.
The New Union is a Pub and Residential Hotel is situated on the corner of Princess Street and Canal Street village. The pub is popular with tv's and ts's who congregate by the small bar. After 9pm the New Union transforms into a club with disco until the early hours. The rooms in the upper part of the property have several very nicely decorated and equipped rooms with en-suite facilities. Access to the upstairs is via a seperate door onto Canal street, or for those who like to make an entrance, through a door into the middle of the New Union pub!
Napoleons is my favourite club in Manchester's gay Village, being very popular with TV's and TS's. The place is on two floors, with a bar and comfy seating downstairs, and a disco with bar area upstairs. The dance floor is surrounded by mirrors so each girl can admire herself whilst dancing. There is usually an entry fee for none TVs/TSs!
The Curzon Club is a new venue for the "New Blooms Group" on Merseyside. The first and third Thursday of each month are the nights to visit, with a disco being held from 8.30pm until late. I have yet to visit this place, but you can get further details from June Flowers on 0151 263 8693. (£1 entry fee payable at the door)
The current meeting place of the Northern Concord Group which meets in the piano bar. I am due to visit shortly.Watch this space for a report.
