Turnover was muted on the Accra bourse on Monday, only 27,500 shares were traded, but gains in two issues outweighed one decline to push the GSE All-Share Index up .68 to 819.31.

Guinness Ghana Ltd made the most significant rise, up 10 cedis to 930 on turnover of 2700 shares. Only 100 shares in Accra Brewery Ltd have been traded so far this month, and Monday produced no change at 650 cedis, while a small parcel of 300 cedis was traded in Ghana Brewery Ltd at 1900 cedis.

The most heavily traded issue by volume was Ghana Commercial Bank, unchanged at 1000 cedis on turnover of 10,100 shares. SSB Ltd was the market's second gainer, up 2 cedis to 1662 on volume of 1800 shares, shile Standard Chartered Bank was not traded at 23,950 cedis.

Unilever fell again, by 4 cedis to 1735 on turnover of 7,400 shares, which made it the most heavily traded issue by value. However, demand for the shares remains strong, with bids totalling 423,100 shares at prices up to a high of 1750 cedis.

Small parcels were traded in British American Tobacco Ghana, CFAO, Enterprise Insurance Co, Mobil Oil of Ghana Ltd and UTC Estates. Aluworks Ltd, and Fan Milk Ltd were the only other markers to achieve 4-figure volume, ending unchanged at 2800 (ALW, volume 3200) and 1260 (FML, volume 1000) respectively.

The "optimism index" held steady at 4, with its constituents unchanged. Shares offered continued to swamp bids at 3.76m to 559,000.

There were no trades in the bond market.
