You know by now that spares can put pins on your average and that a solid spare game is essential if you are to compete successfully at tournament level. But which is the best system? There is no one single best way, you have to use what works best for you.

Here we will compare the 2-4-6 and 3-6-9 systems side-by-side.

The 3-6-9 Spare System
Some people prefer to use the one system over another, finding it easier to keep their target the same, or alternatively keep their feet in the same spot.

With the 3-6-9 system you keep the same target and move your feet to the left or to the right. You move your feet in jumps of three, six or nine boards.

To use the 2-4-6 system you deliver the ball more to the left or right of your base target. The target changes by two, four or six boards.

Once you've got a system that works best for you it's time to start zoning in on the strike line faster. The 5-4-3 system can help you do that.
