Bowling Video Clips

Bowling Video Clips Logo Video is an essential tool for a coach or bowler training to better their game. Combined with the power of the computer you'll see video clips here to help you better understand strikes and spares as well as various styles of releases and approaches.

Here you will find online video clips demonstrating several aspects of the game. We've grouped the clips into the following categories...
  1. Ball Motion
  2. Common Spares
  3. The Release
  4. The Approach

Or you can load our video jukebox and view them in one place without the commentary offerred here.

Each video was captured in "Avi" format and converted to "Mpeg" format for faster loading on the web. They should be playable with any video player. I considered using "streaming" video technology, which lets you view the footage sooner, but at the sacrifice of quality. I believe the quality is important (for analysis & learning) so decided, instead, to reduce download time by keeping the clips short (four seconds or so).

Can't get a video to play? Read my tips page or, if you have comments or ideas on a particular video you'd like to see, please contact me and I'll try and help you.

Technical Note: I use the Microsoft "Media Player" to present the video clips. This has been tested in both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The media-player is included with most new computers, but if you don't have this on your system it will be automatically downloaded - that will take up to fifteen minutes, but only has to be done once. Most of the videos will download in about two minutes.

Ball MotionDividor line

A ball might weigh fifteen or sixteen pounds, but there is over thirty pounds of wood (the pins) at the bottom of the lane. A simple straight ball will deflect off the head pin and leave the 5-pin standing in the middle. Thus the "hook" bowl developed to create a better entry angle into the pins to drive through and carry that 5-pin. These video clips will show when and where the balls hooks. We'll also show the helicopter/spinner style of bowling.

You are playing well but a good "pocket" ball leaves a spare - Why? Watching these clips can help you understand why. With increased knowledge of why these pins remain standing you'll be better able to keep cool under pressure and make the adjustment needed to score better. We have some simple systems online which you can use to improve your spare-shooting.

These videos demonstrate the principles of three different styles of bowlers. Anyone can throw a straight ball, but to get the ball to hook or to spin helicopter style requires that the bowler learn and practise the skill of a sophisticated "release".
