FROM KATHLYN GAY

With numerous articles, short stories, and more than
120 books published, including "first readers," middle grade and young
adult books, encyclopedias, teacher manuals, and portions of textbooks
I find my life enriched by writing nonfiction work focusing on social and
environmental issues, culture, history, and communication.
Acid Rain, my first book on an environmental issue, was selected as an
"Outstanding Book" by the National Council for Social Studies and
National Science Teachers' Association in 1983; Silent Killers received
the same award in 1988. Global Garbage: International Trade in Toxic
Waste was chosen as a Notable Book for Young People in 1993. The
Right to Die: Public Controversy, Private Matter was listed in 1994 Books
of the Year by the Child Study Group. Other books were selected Books
for the Teen Age by the New York Public Library.
