This representation is based upon the work of William Carter and Elizabeth (Saunders) Stubbs, published as pamphlet in 1918 (Two Virginia Families Transplanted from England). Evidence suggests the father of Robert may have been John Catlett of Stafford and Prince William counties, VA.

The Meriwether connection appears to be pure fiction, suggested by Stubbs and wife and perpetuated by entries in the LDS Church holdings (specifically in the IGI and the Ancestral File). The lineage from [Col.] John Catlett [Sr.] back appears to be based on good solid research performed on behalf of David Avant of Tallahassee, Florida, in the 1980's.
