2nd Bishops Waltham Guides What we do We love camping so naturally we know all the great sites in our area. Perhaps you know some other cool sites in Hampshire or elsewhere? Let us know. Even in Winter we spend time outdoors because luckily we are surrounded by countryside. For instance, we hold enrolments in the nearby moors and once tried to float candles on a pond! There are several groups using our HQ: 2 Rainbow groups, 2 Brownie packs and 2 Guide groups and now the Rangers unit. We used to have a rather naff guide hut until in September 1996 when some STUPID wallies burnt it down. Wahey, you might say, new HQ but there was one slight hitch - we still needed to raise more than £35,000! Having threatened to hold our meeting in the middle of a busy roundabout, we finally got started on the foundations! The result is a fine building with all mod cons: carpets, showers, loos, fully fitted kitchen, shelves and storage for all(!) our camp equipment, central heating, smoke detectors, and - wonder of wonders - beautiful home made curtains. Our Official Opening on 21st March 1998 was a great success . Fund raising is serious on-going work. Annually we hold duck racing on New Years day when the water is usually warmer than the weather, though the nearby pub warms the inner wo/man! In 1997, 6 of our guides went with Pumba and Timone, Baloo, Roo and Kaa to Cumbaree International Camp. If all goes well we may go internernational in the millenium year!
