ALAN JONES - NOTES

As the longest serving bassist with the Shadows ( joining them in 1977 for the "20 Golden Greats Tour") Alan is well known to Shads' fans for his deft playing and his "big smile" on stage. Bruce* recalls that, "his precision playing, note perfect, night after night was a joy to watch and listen to. His inventive bass parts on records like "Riders In The Sky", "The Deerhunter" and "Equinoxe" were a major asset to these and many other records".

that big smile

Alan has worked with a veritable army of pop stars :- Gilbert O'Sullivan, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Freddie Mercury, George Harrison and Paul McCartney; and of course Sir Cliff. He was also asked to work with Elvis but was under contract to Tom Jones at the time, which he did not want to break.

Alan tours and records with Tangent and The Local Heroes, he has a solo CD out, "A Shadow in Time", the title track of which is self-penned and features Hank guesting on lead. On the album Alan plays bass, lead and acoustic guitars, keyboards and synthesisers, percussion and programming. He also takes lead vocals on the Rock & Roll orientated program. Particular favourites of mine are "Will You Still Love Me Tommorrow", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" & "Ain't No Sunshine", the title track is strong and inventive and the CD is very well worth aquiring if you like 50's and 60's rock music.
