A FEW LITTLE KNOWN FACTS FOR SHADOWS EXPERTS

  1. Jet Black was released in the USA in 1959, the lads went under the name of THE FOUR JETS because of difficulties using the name THE DRIFTERS. The name was not appreciated by its bearers who very quickly came up with the better known SHADOWS.

  2. The name of THE SHADOWS was first used on record on Cliff's TRAVELLIN' LIGHT single.

  3. The first SHADOWS' record was Saturday Dance / Lonesome Fella.

  4. STARS FELL ON STOCKTON was the first number recorded by BRIAN BENNET with the Shadows.

  5. The first appearance by LIQUORICE LOCKING with The Shadows was in 1962 at the British Songwriters Guild Charity Concert, "Our Friends the Stars".

  6. On the sleeve notes of their first US album the Shadows were described as "the originators of surf music".

  7. At the "TALK OF THE TOWN" at the beginning of 1968, The Shadows opened in their first West End show without Cliff. The line up was :- Hank, Bruce, Brian and John. John & Brian were both taken ill and their places were filled by LIQUORICE and Tony Meehan. The line up HANK, BRUCE, LIQUORICE AND TONY lasted for just over a week as the remaining dates were fulfilled.

  8. In 1970 Hank was offered a job with THE MOVE by ROY WOOD & BEV BEVAN.

  9. According to Hank on the BBC Radio 2 broadcast on 17/01/98 the song "THROW DOWN A LINE" was written by him for JIMI HENDRIX. Unfortunately the untimely death of Jimi prevented him from recording it. It was later recorded by Cliff and Hank and released as a single.
