The NASCAR phenomena continues to dominate US motor sport. Despite loosing their long time tobacco sponsorship, NASCAR continues to attract huge crowds every week to its busy race schedule. The attendance at most of the Nextel Cup races completely outnumbers attendance at F1 Grand Prix meetings, and the grouling racing is more or less on a weekly schedule.
The race schedule includes night races held under floodlights. Equally the facilities at many of the stadiums are of world class standard. Careful tuning of the rules is designed to ensure close racing.
The Daytona 500 in February which grew out of the original beach races on Daytona's famous beach in the 1930s and 1940s is the season's opening race. The Daytona Iernational Speedway can seat some 200,000 spectators and the season's opening race is always a 'sell out'. The season ending in October.
