Game HR6.213, Moderator: Sandy Hemenway "Firemane" John Hanna "Gnaarl" in his Lyran White Tiger TCC Purrcy (Email Gnaarl) vs Scott Hutchens in his Hydran TLM (Email Scott) Scott resigned on Turn 2, Impulse 01. Turn 1: 00: Hydran goes 22, Lyran 16. Turn 1: 03: He launches his Fighters early on. 16: Lyran announces speed increase to 24. 22: I announce 2 ESGs, planning on dropping 1. 23: Both Fighters fire both Fusion Beams at range 10 doing 6 points of damage after reinforcement. 24: He alpha strikes with 5 Ph-1, OL FB, Std FB, OL HB, Std HB and misses with both standards. Whew! He does 23 damage to my #1 shield, leaving me with a 1 point front shield. 25: He turns away, giving me his #5 shield. I cancel 1 ESG as planned. I fire with 4 std disruptors for 12 damage. 26: My ESG comes up at the usual range 3. 27: Lyran announces speed increase to 30. I'll get movement advantage through the end of turn. 28: He launches his last 2 shuttles toward me. He now has no surprises left on his ship. 29: The ESG squashes his first 2 shuttles and is ready to damage his fighters. I fire 2 Ph-1 at each fighter at range 4, crippling both with 7 and 9 damage. 30: ESG finishes off 1 fighter and puts other at 9. 30/31: I made an SOP error in not autokilling the Stinger at range 2. This would have allowed me to turn my down #1 shield away from the Hydran and keep him in my FA on Imp 1.32 and 2.01. In addition, I could keep distance from him more easily. 32: I tractored both his remaining shuttles and labbed them. Both manned and would die on Imp 2.02 when I first moved. I fired 1 Ph-3 to finish off Fighter 1, saving my power for turn 2. Turn 2: Hydran resigns. Analysis: This was my first game against Scott who was an entirely unknown opponent for me. Turn 1: My plan was to either draw out his fighters and kill them without setting up a Hydran overrun or else to snipe at the Hydran shields. My speed plot was designed to control movement and allow options in case of the Hydran was determined to close. His launching of fighters did not worry me as it allowed me to predict his plan: fire with fighters and followup with the ship. I had enough plotted reinforcement in my #1 to take care of a normal distribution Hydran attack. His fighter fire was incredible and fortunately he missed with a Hellbore. Sort of evened out. I dropped half his #5 shield and stayed on it for the rest of the turn while I killed his fighters and shuttles. Good deal! Turn 2: I had the Hydran where I wanted him. He needed to HET in order to come after me, and I would be able to pop him with OL Disruptors on Imp 2.01 and have Ph-1s available for later. With my movement plot I should be able to keep the Hydran from getting any closer than range 3, an acceptable risk. Hydran ended up resigning. This turn would have determined the victor. I needed to avoid his overrun while trying to take advantage of his weak #5 shield. SFB PBEM Game HR6.213 Analysis
