SFB PBEM Game HR3.105 Analysis
Game HR3.105, Moderator: Jeff "Ozzy" Osbourne
John Hanna "Gnaarl" in his Lyran White Tiger TCC Purrcy
vs
Lyle "Alzado" Miller in his Kzinti TCC
My Lyran TCC defeated Lyle "Alzado" Miller's Kzinti TCC on Turn 3, Impulse 29.
Turn 1: The Kzinti put 10 drones into flight and
fired standard disruptors at my #6 shield.
My Lyran closed, killed 4 drones with ESGs and
fired 4 overloaded disruptors at his #6 shield.
No internals.
Turn 2: The Kzinti and his drones chased me and
ran into an identified Suicide Shuttle.
Late into the turn, I killed the 6 SP drones with phaser-3s.
Turn 3: We met at close range (2 and 1) and I came out the winner.
Analysis: The Kzinti split his ship from his drones and slipped away.
Due to a late turn speed change, I was guaranteed a range 5
shot on the Kzinti as well as a guaranteed ESG kill of 4 of
the 10 drones. The 1.32 fire dropped the Kzinti #6 shield
to 1 box. The Kzinti killed 1 of 2 Lyran shuttles launched
on Imp 1.31.
The Kzinti ran into the 2nd Lyran shuttle (already ID'd as
a Suicide Shuttle), not expecting it to be able to turn on
its first move of turn 2. Due to its 1.31 launch and 1.32
movement, it dropped the Kzinti #1 shield by 18 boxes. With
6 ESG wounded drones chasing the Lyran, the Kzinti followed.
Near mid-turn, Kzinti fired 2 OL Disruptors at the Lyran #4
shield for 6 points and later fired 2 std Disruptors at the
Lyran #3 shield for 6 points. Near the end of the turn, I
killed all 6 drones using 6 phasers as Ph-3s. I also got to
fire 2 Ph-1s at range 8 on the weak #6 Kzinti shield, scoring
1 internal. The Kzinti then turned his down shield away on
impulse 32 and now had his weak #1 shield facing while I
turned to get into attack/defend position while announcing
ESGs.
On turn 3, perhaps fearing a Lyran pre-emptive Imp 3.01 strike
at range 8, the Kzinti launched 1 drone, fired 2 std disruptors
and 2 phasers on Imp 1, doing 6 points to my #6 shield. He then
proceded to close for the overrun. Cancelling my ESGs at the
last moment, I launched a WW at the last moment, killing the 4
drones launched on turn 2 and the post-explosion also caught
the 3.01 launched drone. I then reactivated my weapon systems
and waited for the Kzinti overrun. Changing my speed to 3 in
reverse to give myself some extra room/time, I ID'd the 3 drones
which the Kzinti launched at range x, finding them all to be
Type I drones. I fired Ph-3s at range 2 and then at range 1 to
kill them all. When the Kzinti reached range 2, I fired just
enough weapons to drop his #2 shield and do slight internals.
I held back 2 phasers to kill a late turn Kzinti SS launch and
waited for the inevitable range 1 shot upon one of his forward
shields. My Imp 3.28 shot hit, wiping out his batteries. He
launched his SS on 3.29, which I promptly killed with the 2
held back phasers and announced 2 ESGs, which would come up on
4.01 and be able to damage/protect on 4.02. His 3.29 alpha
(2 OL Disr, 2 Ph-1, 2 Ph-3) didn't breach my shield, sealing
his fate.
The SOP error in which the Kzinti ran over my suicide shuttle
definitely played a big factor in the game-deciding turn 3 close
battle. With a full front shield, the Kzinti would have had
all his disruptors and phaser-1s to use at point blank range.
In addition, he could have saved his drone to soak up an extra
phaser or two.
