Gorton North

Gorton North is located in East Manchester. Until 1991, it had always been represented only by Labour Councillors on Manchester City Council, when Jackie Pearcey was first elected. Gorton North Ward is situated near to the former Belle Vue complex.

As local Councillors, several advice surgeries a month are held, at which all members of the public are welcome.

Jackie Pearcey

Councillor Jackie Pearcey was first elected to Manchester City Council in 1991, as the first ever non-Labour City Councillor for the Ward. Jackie is currently the Liberal Democrat Group's Finance Spokesperson and is also the Group Whip. Jackie was re-elected to the council in May 1995. Jackie stood for Manchester Gorton in the 1997 General Election, gaining a good second place with the larget net swing from Labour to Liberal Democrats in England.

Iain Donaldson

Iain Donaldson was first elected to Manchester City Council in 1992 and reelected in 1996. Iain is currently the Liberal Democrat Group's Planning Spokesperson. Iain is very active in many local community groups. Iain stood as the Liberal Democrat Candidate for Denton and Reddish in the 1997 General Election.

Wendy Helsby

Wendy Helsby was first elected to Manchester City Council in 1994, making her the third Liberal Democrat Councillor, when she defeated the last sitting Labour Councillor. Wendy has long been active in local tenants' and residents' groups in the Gorton area and is currently the youngest member of the Liberal Democrat Group. Wendy serves on the Arts and Leisure, Housing and Social Services Committees.
