astroNAVCOMP

replaces all tables traditionally required for calculation of position fixes from sextant sights. These are computed directly as Latitude and Longitude and plotting of intercepts and azimuths is not needed.

Ephemerides are generated internally up to year 2050 for sun, moon, 58 stars, and 4 navigational planets. Distinct functions are provided for sight reduction of Sun, Moon, Star and Planet sights.

Facilities for passage planning include Great Circle and Mercator sailing.

SIGHT REDUCTION

OBSERVED ALTITUDE Sextant altitudes are corrected automatically for refraction, parallax, semi-diameter (sun, moon), dip, index error. Use of PSION clock for timing of sights.

Up to seven sights of a body can be entered. Selected LOP's are averaged to yield one LOP.

POSITION FIX Up to seven position lines can be computed and stored. Selected good position lines are reduced to a fix and displayed as Lat/Long. Graphic display of LOP's, DR and Fix.

SIGHT PLANNING

Times of morning and evening Nautical and Civil twilights, Sunrise, Noon and Sunset. Moon rise transit and set.

*STAR/PLANET IDENTIFIER and FINDER

Local time of observation, bearing and sextant altitude identifies a body by name, with optional conversion to a Line of Position.
Date/time/position and name of star/planet yield its bearing and altitude. All stars 10° or more above the horizon can be listed.

*RUNNING FIXES Automatic compensation for yacht's position change between sights.

*ALMANAC

Computes GHA and Declination of any navigational body and GHA Aries, at any date/time.

*ESTIMATED POSITION

EP lat/long and groundtrack computed from departure waypoint, course steered, mag. variation, compass deviation, distance sailed, duration, average current set and drift, and leeway. Can be used with sight reduction for sight-run-sight fixes.

*PASSAGE PLANNING

RHUMB LINE SAILING computes (and stores) sailing plans of up to 99 legs. Results include groundtrack, watertrack, duration and log, fully corrected for variation, deviation, current and leeway.
NEXT LEG facilitates the planning of multi-leg passages.
TACKING for upwind sailing in a sector of reducing tacks.
GREAT CIRCLE used for ocean passages the function computes the shortest distance and initial true course between any two global points. Intermediate latitudes on the Great Circle are computed for a number of entered longitudes.

*WAYPOINTS

In Series 3 up to 234 lat/long pairs with names and INDEX can be stored. In Series 5 the WAYPOINT file is a standard PSION Data file with Card and List views.

Waypoints are retrieved by name, or, in Series 5, directly from INDEX displayed on the touch screen. They can be used in sail plans. They can be sent to GPS.The file is shared with NAVCOMP, if installed
