Winner:
Like A Piece of Furniture - Romantic Comedy by Jeffrey Bender. Headstrong magazine exec Bonnie turns down a date with amiable Stan, who cheerfully vows to camp on her stoop until she changes her mind. Pressure grows as her Brooklyn Heights street sparks back to life and sides with Stan.
Finalists:
- Dead City - Thriller by William J. Zide. During a late night office party, Aaron’s boss confesses to a murder. The next day Aaron finds himself looking for the truth – a search that leads him and his best friend into deceit, death and betrayal.
- Prior Engagement - Romantic Comedy by Steve Loh. A rich businessman discovers he can’t marry the woman of his dreams because a mock wedding he went through aboard a cruise 12 years ago was mistakenly registered as legal.
- Cold Streak - Contemporary Western Drama by Alex Dimitriev & Jan Buttram. A lady sheriff in a good old boy Texas town, stolen horses, murder and family intrigue.
- Ring of Evidence - Noir Thriller by Laura Krome. Uncertain of his own guilt or innocence, a man accused of murder must face his past to learn the truth about himself and his future.
- Carrion Crawler - Relationship Dramedy by Jim Freeman. A boy’s trauma about entering highschool leads him to examine questions about his identity.
MOW-Movie of the Week Section
Winner:
Deadly Amanita - Mystery/Romantic Comedy by Barbara Albers Jackson. Hotshot coroner finds evidence linking her boyfriend with a murder.
Finalists:
- Biosphere - Action/Adventure by Paula Brancato & Janis Fischer. A deadly toxin gets loose on a submarine with the Navy’s first female commander – her ex-lover brought the toxin on board.
- Casey’s Dawn - Relationship Drama by Carter Cammack. Casey thought life was rough before he killed himself. Now he’s stuck between here and the hereafter trying to fix the pain he caused his friends and family.
Short Section
Winners (Tie):
Over the Rainbow - Noir by Adam Fein. A really bad day leads to a ray of hope.
Fate Gets a Push - Romantic Comedy by Larry Postel. The story of Ron, a lonely, lovelorn man in his late thirties, whose life is suddenly changed for the better thanks to Madam Marie Cureall – part psychic, part yenta.
Finalist:
Caveat Emptor - Black Comedy by Jeff Woodard. A writer indebted to gangsters cons a friend into assuming his identity. The friend soon finds himself dodging a knife-wielding wiseguy and glam literary groupies.
