Little Big LAN

Current Release

We are currently shipping 2.0j+.

Here is a list of the changes:

1) Added some Win98 tweaks

2) Improved the FSPOOL print spooler

Previous Release

Version 2.0h changes: 1) Fixed small bug in detecting multiple xxx_link drivers 2) Added separate server handle list ("NET21 HANDLES:a,b" where a=number of redirected handles this node can open on remote nodes and, where b=number of file handles other nodes can open on this node in the background. Currently the maximum = 255 for both) Prior to this version the b parameter did not work. 3) Added code to guess the linking device when LBL is improperly configured so if connlist is not setup then the LAN may still work. 4) Fixed a problem with lost file handles. If a remote handle was opened okay but the alias handle on the local machine failed to open (probably due to not enough file handles) then the remote handle was not closed. This could cause lost handles or locked files. 5) Added "demo" code. 6) Added "node_reset" code which permits workstations to clear the server of all files opened by that node. This is helpful in the event of a workstation crash when it might have open files on the server that it did not close them due to the crash. 7) Changed some CDROM code. 8) Fixed file open call for "server" calls (Win95 mode) - added attribute (CL) in both foreground and background. 9) Fixed file DELete call (Fn41) for "server" calls (Win95 mode) - added attribute (CL) 10) Fixed file REName call (Fn56) for "server" calls (Win95 mode) - added attribute (CL) 11) moved a STI in one of the background subroutines 12) Increased the File search DTA for long paths. Earlier versios would hang when a remote node tried to open files with a very long path. 13) Adjusted file close function for child processes. It should now work in Win95 and dos mode. 14) Changed Fn43 Change File Mode error from "access denied" to "file not found." 15) Set "direct i/o not allowed" bit on IOCTL "check if block device is remote" (Fn44.9) when LBL ABS mode is off. 16) Fixed "Force duplicate file handle" call (Fn46). This bug was causing 4DOS to hang in "do loop" batches on network drives. 17) Set extended error on "Get/Set volume serial number" (Fn69). 18) Set extended error on "extended open/create" (Fn6C). 19) Added Set_error subroutine to set extended errors in Win95 mode. 20) Worked on traffic problem for mixed links. Now is much more reliable. 21) Fixed the extended error problem on Win95. The problem occurred if on Win95 dos box you did a COPY on a local disk while some other node accessed the Win95 node. You sometimes get a weird message like "File not found." This also fixed the TREE problem in MSDOS 5/6x. 22) Fixed the Win95 EXPLORER time delay when it loads if remote nodes are off. Also fixed error reporting so that accessing off drives indicates there is a network error. 23) Added code to NET0 device driver so it can now do redirection with new commands. Also added ALIVE code for broadcasting ALIVE requests. A ALIVE broadcast will report all available nodes with one command. Had to add code to all the link drivers for same. 24) Added FAST mode to NCON/RCON dor faster screen refresh. 25) Added hardware checking to ETH_LINK. Now the driver will complain if the card is not responding due to improper i/o address or irq. 26) Added check to see make sure LASTDRIVE is set high enough. NET21 will complain if it is not. Version 2.0h changes: 1) Fixed the file lock extended error report (Fn5C) for PRO5 Basic. 2) Added code to stall LAN activity while Windows loads and exits. There were occasions where Microsoft was not switching from real to 386 enhanced mode properly and it would kill LBL. 3) Added a retry capability for critical errors. This allows the user to control the length of timeout and the number of retries. On NET21, WAIT:182,3 would set the "Not Ready" timeout for LBL remote drives to 182 ticks (10 seconds) and three retries. This can be very helpful on hardware which is giving spurious errors. The default is WAIT:273,1 4) The error checking code was redone to check for valid transaction numbers prior to command matches. 5) Added the messaging primitives. This can be used by programmers to easily send/receive packets. 6) Added another watchdog timer to prevent unstable states from lasting. 7) Fixed QUIT code which was broken by an earlier Win95 fix.
