THE INDIAN CIVIL SERVICE ASSOCIATION ("ICSA")

The Indian Civil Service ("ICS") was responsible, under the Viceroy, for the
civil administration of India from 1858 (when the Crown took over from the
Honourable East India Company) until August 1947 when India and Pakistan
became independent. At that date the ICS numbered 1250 officers,
of whom less than half were expatriates.

After August 1947,the ICS was succeeded by the Indian and Pakistan Administrative
services, into whose ranks many former, locally recruited, ICS officers passed,
serving their countries with considerable disitinction at home and abroad.

Prior to 1996, membership of ICSA was restricted to former officers of the ICS,
their widows and unmarried daughters. Since 1996, membership has been open to
their children and grandchildren,as well as those wishing to sustain the memory,
tradition and spirit of the ICS.

ICSA presently has over 200 members,70% of whom are former officers and their
widows. The remainder are largely the children and grand-children of former ICS
officers.

Most of ICSA's members live in Great Britain, though there are members in the
USA,Canada, Australia, India, Pakistan, Eire and Continental Europe.

ICSA exists to watch over the interests of former members of the ICS and their
widows as well as to help members to keep in touch through an Annual Newsletter,
the organisation of an Annual Lunch in London and the publication of a
Membership Address List from time to time.

ICSA welcomes applications to join from suitably qualified persons.
