Configuring Outlook Express 5.0 using IMAP
for Macintosh
This handout is a comprehensive set of instructions to configure Outlook
Express 5.0 to work with Macintosh Computers.

Connecting to the Internet
Before you can check your e-mail, you must be connected to the
Internet. Start your Compuserve 2000 program and connect in the usual way to do this. Then
run your Outlook Express program.
What is IMAP?
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a standard protocol for
accessing e-mail from your local server. E-mail is received and held for you by your local
server, in this case Compuserve.
Getting Started
- Launch Outlook Express by double-clicking on it's icon.
- If the Internet Connection Wizard does not appear, go to the Tools
menu and choose Accounts. The Internet Accounts window will appear. (Fig. 1)
- Click on the New Button on the top left of the window.

- The Account Setup Assistant will appear. (Fig 2)
- Type in your name and click the blue
Right arrow to continue.

- The Internet E-mail Address window appears (Fig. 3). Click the radio button next
to "I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use."
- Type in your e-mail address and click the blue right arrow
to continue. Your Compuserve 2000 email address will be username@cs.com
eg. inoble3246@cs.com

- The E-mail Server Names window appears. (Fig. 4). Choose IMAP from the
Incoming mail server drop down menu.
- Type in imap.cs.com
as the Incoming Mail server.
Type in smtp.cs.com
as the Outgoing mail server and click the blue right arrow to
continue.

- In the Internet Mail Logon window (Fig. 5), type your Compuserve user name
in lowercase letters next to Account ID. Your user name is the first part of your e-mail
address before the @ sign. For example, inoble3246@cs.com
would be inoble3246.
- Type your Password. Only check the Save password box if your computer is
secure from other people accessing your e-mail. Click the blue
right arrow to continue.

- The Congratulations window will appear (Fig. 6). Type in an Account name and
click the Finish button. You are done configuring Outlook Express for your IMAP
account on Compuserve 2000.

| You are now ready to use your e-mail. When you want to check
your e-mail, click on the Send & Receive button in the toolbar (Fig. 7).
