Configuring Netscape 6 For IMAP
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you
were using a previous version of Netscape, the upgrade installer will automatically adopt
all of your previous settings. You should only need to follow the instructions below
if you have not previously used Netscape to read your Compuserve 2000 e-mail.
PLEASE NOTE THAT
THESE SCREEN SHOTS ARE 'BORROWED' FROM ANOTHER SITE. PLEASE USE THE SETTINGS GIVEN IN THE
TEXT RATHER THAN THOSE SHOWN IN THE SCREEN SHOTS.
Also note: If you do
not like the new "Modern" look of Netscape version 6 you can return to the more
familiar "Classic" look using the menu commands:
Edit->Preferences->Appearance->Themes->Classic->Apply Classic.
- Launch Netscape 6 using its icon or (Windows
users) from the Start button.
- Select Mail from the Tasks menu
.
- If the Account Wizard does not open
automatically for you, choose Edit-Mail/News Account Settings from the mail program
menu.
- Click on the New Account button.
- In the Account Wizard window that
opens, indicate that you want to set up an ISP or email provider, then click Next.
- Complete your name (John Doe)
and email address (username@cs.com)
as instructed, then click Next.
- Indicate that you want to use an IMAP Mail
Server and that the server name is imap.cs.com. Then click Next.

- Make sure that the User Name is your
correct CS2000 username. Then click Next.
- Choose a new account name, if you wish
to, or leave it as the default choice (your e-mail address). Then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- In the open Account Settings window, click
on the name of the account you just set up in order to select it and verify that it
looks correct.
- Next, click on the Server section just
below it and set your preferences for deleting and checking mail as follows:
Finally, click on the Outgoing
(SMTP) Server section to make sure that you have the outgoing mail server set as smtp.cs.com.
Then, click on OK.
