FORMULATING A PLAN FOR INDIVIDUAL GROWTH

Gaining a relevant client history and image of the childhood prototype.
Eliciting earliest memories, fantasies, and dreams.
Seeking the common denominators in symptoms, attitudes, thinking, feeling, and action.
Making diagnostic conclusions: inferiority feelings, compensatory fictional goal, degree of activity, levels of social interest and courage.
Comparing individual's life style to fully funtioning ideal--Adler/Müller/Maslow model of human potential.

THE PROCESS OF CREATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY

Translating life style diagnosis into a treatment plan.
Winning cooperation and endorsing responsibility.
Phases of a complete psychotherapy. Support phase: contact, empathy, and information. Encouragement phase: moving in a new direction. Insight phase: revealing the life style and goal. Change phase: providing a missing experience, experimenting with new attitudes. Challenge phase: discovering social interest, adopting a new philosophy and life goal.

SOCRATIC QUESTIONING FOR COGNITIVE CHANGE

The art of leading a client to useful conclusions.
Centripetal strategies: getting to the bottom of private meanings, personal values, and an implicit philosophy of life.
Centrifugal strategies: generating new thinking, feeling, and action possibilities; dialectical exploration of options; evaluating probabilities and logical consequences.
Contemplating a new meaning of life.

USING EIDETIC AND GUIDED IMAGERY FOR AFFECTIVE CHANGE

Eidetic imagery for enhancing insight into early family relationships: symbolically embedded meaning and feeling.
Guided imagery for eliciting deep feelings, changing parental imprints, preparing for emotional change, and positive anticipation of new success.
Narrative imagery for teaching, coaching, and correcting behavior patterns.

ROLE-PLAYING AND ACTION STRATEGIES FOR BEHAVIORAL CHANGE

Role-playing to illustrate unclear or evasive descriptions.
Rehearsing a new behavior al strategy with the therapist or group member.
Testing a client's readiness: experiencing the worst-case scenario and learning to handle it.
Discovering probable positive and negative social consequences.
Playing the client to experience private logic.
