Fast scan Amateur Television.
A short description of amateur television. Amateur TV is fairly popular with a lot of UK hams, most of the fast scan (like broadcast TV) activity is on the 23cm (1249 Mhz) band, the mode of transmision is FM, this mode is common use on satelite television. Activity in this area centres around the amteur TV repeater which is located at race hill Brighton, the repeater greatly increases the range of our transmisions. The content of our pictures is usually generated by an ordinary camcorderor the video output from the various types of computer that are in common use, sound accompanies our pictures on the usual 6 Mhz subcarrier. Transmitting and receiving equipment is faily readily available, transmitter kits from the Worthing ATV repeater group (GB3VR) and surplus satelite receivers are easily modified to accept our transmisions, the LNB from the satelite systems can be modified to make excellent pre-amplifiers for the 23cms band. There is a growing interest in the 10Ghz microwave band as equipment becomes easier to get hold of. To transmit amateur television a DTI licence is required, the licence is obtained by sitting and passing an examination. On this page there are some examples of our test cards and pictures.
