Introduction
Welcome to the site of the Panzer Füsilier Regiment GD Living History Group. We hope that you will find this site entertaining and informative. The objective of our group is to recreate as closely as possible the sight and sound of a Panzergrenadier (Armoured Infantry) unit on the Eastern Front in the last 2 years of the Second World War. Our group believes in bringing history to life, the sights, sounds and even the smells!
Based in the UK, our group is composed of private individuals willing to invest a great deal of time and money into a worthwhile and very rewarding hobby.The majority of members are military enthusiasts and militaria collectors, almost all study the period as an intellectual pursuit as well. Whilst the main focus of the group is the re-creation of a sub-unit of the Panzer Füsilier Regiment GD there is also a lot of interest in the overall conflict in the East, both from a German and Russian perspective. All of our members are very experienced re-enactors/living historians.
What will you find here?
There are sections on the site that will outline the operational history of the Panzer Füsilier Regiment during 1944-45, how we try to recreate the unit, a picture gallery and a section dealing with the uniform and equipment of the Panzer Füsilier. There is also an events diary listing displays that we will be attending and other events of note. Some of the text and images require you to move the vertical seperator bar between the navigation pane and the display panel to view them in all their glory!!
The tactics of the Panzergrenadier units are also covered, as well as a section about the vehicles commonly found in these units. Where we cannot provide certain information the links section should point you to a Website that can.
Our group and this site does not seek to glorify war but to serve as a living memorial and reminder to a modern generation, relatively untouched by major conflict, of the sacrifice made by young men and women of all nations during the period 1939 to 1945.
