News Flash - ** New Psions on the way in the summer? **

19th March, 1997

Well, it's speculation time again! At least this time Psion themselves have had SOME input. This weeks PC Week (out today) carried a story claiming that "Psion announced plans to launch two new machines based on its next-generation 32-bit technology...". The report goes on to say "... at least one of the machines will be a highly sophisticated pocket PC capabale of wireless communications and designed to compete with machines based on Microsoft's Windows CE operationg system."

No mention of pricing yet, but it looks like we're looking at a "Summer" release. This would explain the recent price reductions on the 3c - recently reduced by £50.

It will be interesting to see just what Psion come up with. As the first WinCE machine are now available, it will be quite difficult for them to come up with anything "new". I would expect to see many of the features already found on CE's, i.e. pen-based input as well as keyboard, backlit display, capacity for mass storage. Maybe they'll surprise us all and give us colour! With the recent announcement of JAVA being available for EPOC 32, let's hope we get the facility to program direct on the machine in JAVA. This would give Psion a big advantage over the CE's, which require development to take place on a PC.
