Lesson 8
Two lights put to Three uses

Objective
Create a graphic image which depends on shape for impact.

- Background is a roll of black seamless.
Lighting
- #1 A single bank light, positioned about 6 feet off the floor.
The high positioning equalized the intensity of light between the
model's head and her legs.
The bank light defines the legs with shadow. A bank light was used
because the softer shadow better defines a 3 dimensional shape.
Light measured f8 incident.
- #2 f11 incident at model's legs. A standard reflector with
an amber gel was used to separate the model from the black
background. Note that the light was angled to provide extra
illumination to the floor behind the model's legs.
Cool Trick!
Remember our discussion of reproduction range. If you want a
black background to reproduce as grey, you must give it
more light than your subject. In this example, the main
subject was f8. The floor immediately behind the model's
legs received f11½
